Gert-Jan Nijsse Two-Day, Hands-On
Violet Breche Marble

faux expo

This two day class will take you to the quarries to see what happened over millions of years. One type of marble has been used very often to reconstruct with paint is 'The Breche Violette'. Marbling a good piece of breche marble takes time to study structure and composition. Master Italian artists who designed interiors for churches and important buildings were experts in putting together magnificant tableaux of marble. Also 19th century decorative painters developed techniques to use their paint to do the same. Not just decorating with a marble-effect, but also trying to reach the artistic level of the Italian marble designers.

Class will run Thursday and Friday (9/29-9/30) and go till approximately 5pm each day. Cost for this two-day, full-on workshop is presently discounted to only $410 per student. All paints, canvas and some brushes will be provided to the class, however, students are encouraged to bring standard art brushes to avoid sharing. This class can help you improve your skills even more because we will be using basic knowledge on composition, structure and weight, next to step by step painting of an attractive marble. You will also be instructed on how and where to use it.
